No foreign interference in 2025 Federal Election, taskforce says
There might have been allegations of spies, and a range of other things raised during the election campaign, but the umpire has said 'nothing to see here'.
Controversy about foreign interference is never far away with elections run in the digital era and the 2025 Federal Election held in May is no exception.
The taskforce specifically set up to monitor whether foreign interference was at paly has issued a statement that says nobody noticed anything out of the ordinary that indicated foreign interference. The full statement appears below:
Electoral Integrity Assurance Taskforce (EIAT) agencies did not identify any foreign interference, or any other interference, that compromised the delivery of the 2025 federal election and would undermine the confidence of the Australian people in the results of the election.
As the EIAT set out in its January 2025 Election Security Environment Overview, threats to the integrity of the 2025 federal election might be realised through various vectors, including a cyber or physical security incident, foreign interference, and the spread of misinformation or disinformation.
